Fall TV Premiere Dates Canada 2018

Droughtlander Is Almost Over!: Outlander returns November 4.

With fall looming, cooler temperatures will be ushered in and all our favourite (and not-so-favourite) TV shows return! So grab a pumpkin spice latte, or ice-cap or whatever it is you enjoy (personally, I like a good pumpkin pie vape liquid) and get ready to hibernate. Here is a list of fall TV premieres in Canada, with commentary, when warranted. If you don’t agree with me, or I’m missing your favourite show on my list, please feel free to comment and let me know!

September 2018

Wednesday, September 12:

American Horror Story – Apocalypse – (FX Canada)
Season 8 is being described as a combination between season 1 and season 3. If it’s anywhere near as good as season 7 – Cult or season 5 – Hotel was, then viewers will be in for a deliciously horror filled fall season.

Friday, September 14
Norm Macdonald Has a Show (Netflix Canada)
BoJack Horseman (Netflix Canada)

Tuesday, September 18
This Hour Has 22 Minutes (CBC)
This half hour comedy is a Canadian staple that guarantees weekly laughs as they send up Canadian and American politicians alike. I’m waiting with bated breath to see their take on Ontario’s newly-elected bully-in-charge Doug Ford.

Wednesday, September 19
I Feel Bad
(2-part episode) (Global)
I Feel Bad looks quirky and funny. It’s also produced by Amy Poehler, which is a plus in my books! I’ll definitely be tuning into this one.

Thursday, Sept. 20
Dragons’ Den (CBC)

Sunday, Sept. 23
Anne With an E
(CBC)
Like there haven’t been enough Anne of Green Gables TV series – thanks but I’ll pass.
9-1-1 (Part 1) (Global)
I generally don’t like cop shows, and the ads with Jennifer Love-Hewitt front and center, sticking out her huge boobs, doesn’t exactly help either .

Monday, September 24

Murdoch Mysteries – (CBC)
This is a cop show I make an exception for –  it takes place in the early 1900’s and is filmed all over Southwestern Ontario. Murdoch Mysteries is full of drama and even some comedic moments, not to mention Yannick Bisson is definitely easy on the eyes.

Kidding – Season 1, Episode 1 – Green Means Go – Recap

UkeLarry: Jeff Pickles serenades his wife on Conan. Showtime.

Jim Carrey returns to television after a 24 year absence in the new Showtime comedy/drama, Kidding. Carrey plays Jeff Pickles, the successful host of Mr. Pickles Puppet Time, a PBS children’s show that’s been on the air for 30 years.

The series begins with Jeff making an appearance on the Conan O’Brien Show. Danny Trejo is already on the guest couch, sporting a large, gaudy gold and diamond necklace that says P-Hound. Jeff innocently asks him what the P stands for. Trejo tries to come up with a G-rated answer. “It’s like a ladies…” he says, hesitating. “Is it her purse?” Jeff asks. “Yes, purse,” Trejo replies.

Jeff sits down and pulls out an instrument. Conan asks what it is. Trejo answers him: “Come on, everyone knows UkeLarry.” Jeff dedicates the song he is about to play to his wife and he starts singing. Trejo and the entire audience sing along. It’s obvious Mr. Pickles is beloved by the American public. Continue reading “Kidding – Season 1, Episode 1 – Green Means Go – Recap”

Bold And The Beautiful: 5 Reasons Steffy Should Marry Bill As Soon As Possible

Steffy Forrester and Liam Spencer have been married three times on the Bold and the Beautiful, and it has never worked out. Liam has broken her heart on countless occasions and when push comes to shove, he inevitably chooses her rival, Hope Logan, over her. Can we all agree that this toxic relationship has finally run its course? It’s time for Steffy to move on with a real man, Liam’s father Dollar Bill Spencer. Now that Bill has proposed to Steffy, she needs to marry him as soon as possible, for the following 5 reasons.

5. Bill And Steffy Sizzle

There’s a reason Steffy slept with her father-in-law one evening last November and not just because her husband Liam had confessed to kissing another woman – she and Bill have always had an undeniable chemistry between them. The pair wanted to be together years ago but the night Bill planned to tell his wife Katie he was leaving her, he returned home to find all their friends and family in his living room. It turned out Katie had secretly arranged for them to renew their wedding vows. Surprise!

4. Liam is Waffling Again

Poor Liam. He is in love with two beautiful women (Steffy and Hope) and can’t seem to make up his mind which one he wants more. Haven’t we watched this scenario play out countless times for the past eight years? And hasn’t Steffy gone through this enough? Even worse, while she was at home with their baby daughter Kelly, Liam was backstage previewing the Forrester Hope for the Future fashion show and then sampling Hope herself in her dressing room. Luckily, Steffy walked in and caught the the hypocrite in the act. When he quickly apologized, Steffy told him it was too late (the man put her through hell after she had cheated, only to turn around and cheat himself) and she immediately went to see Bill.

Evil Gran’mas and Voodoo Disneyland

When I was a kid,  I was convinced my grandmother was a witch, but she sure as hell had nothing on Marie L’Angell, Jesse Custer’s Gran’ma on AMC’s Preacher.

I didn’t like my grandmother much and the feeling was mutual. She had a knack for upsetting me, like telling me I looked like I was pregnant when I’d wear a bathing suit as a teenager, leading to the inevitable body image issues I’ve had since then. Her taunts later progressed into calling me an old maid, in front of my parents and younger siblings, because I was still single at the ripe old age of 30. I would dread special occasions and big family dinners because she would be there.

I was even stressed out before her wake a few years ago – right up until the moment I looked into her coffin and realized, with sweet relief, that she was dead and I’d never have to put up with her bullshit ever again.

Preacher is one of those shows that’s an acquired taste. I took a pass when it first aired and then binge-watched the first season during an AMC marathon right before Season 2 began. It’s based on a comic book series about a not-so-pious, you guessed it – preacher. Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon wrote the comics. Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin developed the comics into a TV series. Keep Reading!

Harlan Ellison Defied Hollywood Brass

Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison in 1977.

Harlan Ellison was not afraid of the Hollywood establishment. The science fiction author and screenwriter did not suffer plagiarists lightly. He successfully sued ABC and James Cameron, among many others. Ellison died on June 28th at the age of 84.

In his lawsuit against ABC and Paramount Pictures, he alleged the TV series Future Cop was based on the short story Brillo, which was co-written with Ben Bova. The court awarded Ellison and Bova a settlement of $337,00.

He also successfully sued James Cameron, based on an Outer Limits episode he wrote. Soldier is about a warrior sent back in time with one mission – to kill an enemy. Sound familiar? Keep Reading!
