George Crabtree and John Brackenreid transport a convicted axe murderer to prison but trouble is afoot when she escapes, to exact revenge on those who testified against her, in Annabella Cinderella.
The episode opens at Station House No. 4, and Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) asks John (Charles Vandervaart) and George (Jonny Harris) to find convicted murderer Annabella Maloney (Rachel Van Duzer), who has escaped. They chase the woman down an alleyway and John captures her.
Back at the station, both John and Detective Watts (Daniel Maslany) admit they followed the case in the newspaper and express their sympathy for Annabella. Like Lizzie Borden before her, Annabella took an axe and gave her mother forty whacks. Well not exactly 40 whacks – she plunged an axe into her mother once, although the woman wasn’t actually her mother, she was her guardian. Murdoch assists Italian detective Flavio Pupazzi recover a stolen shipload of antiques, and Inspector Brackenreid hopes to recover his shipwrecked marriage in Pirates Of The Great Lakes.
Season 12, episode 10 begins with William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) showing George Crabtree (Jonny Harris) his latest invention, an elaborate-looking dishwasher. He explains to Crabtree that one part of his contraption “pushes strings of soapy water” at the dishes and then shows him “the motor for the dish closet.”
Crabtree wonders why he would be in need of such a machine. “How many dishes do you have, Sir?” he asks. Murdoch tells him Julia has purchased a couple of sets of dinnerware and plans on entertaining a lot.

If the weather outside is frightful, watching these five contemporary Christmas movies will make you feel delightful. I try to watch all the following Christmas movies at least once during the holiday season. There are of course the classic movies like A Christmas Carol (Scrooge) and It’s a Wonderful Life. I like these films, but I tend to enjoy contemporary Christmas flicks more, maybe because I haven’t seen them quite as often.
5. Trading Places (1983)
Wealthy brothers Randolph (Ralph Bellamy) and Mortimer (Don Ameche) Duke make a one-dollar bet, on whether genetics or environment influences a person’s behavior. The pair orchestrate an elaborate plan to send cultured snob Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Ackroyd) into abject poverty and poor street hustler Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy) straight into Winthorp’s lavish lifestyle.

When Billy Ray finds out what the Dukes have been up to, he and Louis team up with prostitute Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Butler Coleman (Denholm Elliot) to turn the tables on the wealthy brothers.
I’ve been watching Trading Places every Christmas since I was a teenager. It’s hilarious and features some stand-out performances, specifically from Denholm Elliot. And watch for a very young Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul), in a jail cell scene with Eddie Murphy.
4.The Family Stone (2005)
Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) brings his uptight girlfriend, Meredith Morton (Sarah Jessica Parker), home for the holidays to meet his unconventional family. A prude, Meredith feels like Everett’s whole family hates her. So she calls her sister Julie (Claire Danes), asking her to come to Connecticut so she’ll have an ally.
Odd Woman Out: The Family Stone
The Family Stone also stars Diane Keaton and Craig T. Nelson as Everett’s parents Sybil and Kelly, Luke Wilson as his brother Ben and Rachel McAdams as his sister Amy. My favorite line in this movie is when Meredith, upset with Everett’s family, is out at a local bar with Ben. He tells Meredith she just needs to be herself. “You have a freak flag. Long-Lost Love: Will the Inspector rekindle his romance with a former flame? CBC
Secrets and Lies begins with Inspector Thomas Brackenreid (Thomas Craig) in unfamiliar surroundings, searching for a missing person. Within minutes, he’s jumped by several men and knocked flat on his back. When he finally gets back on his feet, he makes his way up a staircase to a one room apartment, and is greeted by a black woman with whom he’s obviously well acquainted.
